Questions

Does converting from JPG to PNG improve quality? expand_more

No. PNG is lossless, so it preserves exactly what is in the JPG, but it cannot restore detail that was already lost. The file will usually be considerably larger.

What happens to transparency? expand_more

PNG and WebP both support transparent areas. JPG does not, so transparent regions are filled with white when converting to JPG.

Why is my PNG so much larger than the original JPG? expand_more

PNG is a lossless format designed for graphics and images with flat colours. For photographs, it stores far more data than JPG needs to look the same.

Is there a file size limit? expand_more

No fixed limit is imposed by the tool. The practical ceiling is how much memory your device has free, because the whole job runs inside this browser tab.
