Typically the camera make and model, the date and time, exposure settings, and often precise GPS coordinates. Editing software can also add its own tags, and some images carry thumbnails of earlier versions.

Does removing metadata damage the image? expand_more

No. The pixel data is left completely untouched. Only the descriptive blocks attached to the file are removed, so the picture looks exactly the same.
