When something goes wrong
Damaged files, and formats outside the list above, stop with a plain message rather than a spinner that never finishes. If a picture opens in your gallery it will normally open here.
The format is not supported. Convert it to PNG or JPG first, or try one of the other image tools.
Why not an upload site
An upload-based tool is a form that posts your picture to someone else's machine. Take that step out and a lot of small annoyances disappear with it.

What is a HEIC file?
It's the photo format iPhones have used since 2017. It stores the same picture as a JPG in roughly half the space, which is why Apple switched to it. The trade-off is that everything else took years to catch up.
Why can't Windows open my HEIC photos?
Windows has no built-in reader for them. Microsoft sells a small add-on in its Store, and depending on your version of Windows it may cost a pound or two. Converting costs nothing and takes seconds.
Will the quality get worse?
JPG throws away a little detail every time it saves. Converted once at a good quality setting, the difference isn't something you'll see on screen. Choose PNG if you need every pixel untouched.
How many photos can I convert?
One at a time. There's no queue and no daily cap, so you can run through as many as you need, one after another.
Why does my iPhone save HEIC instead of JPG?
It's the default, and it saves space on the phone. If you'd rather it didn't, go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose "Most Compatible".
Does it work on Android, Mac or Linux?
Any recent browser on any of them. There's nothing to install.
Compared with the alternatives
