Why will my HEIC photos not open on some websites? expand_more

HEIC is Apple's own format. Safari supports it natively, but many browsers, websites and older programs do not, which is why converting to JPG is usually the simplest fix.

Does converting to JPG lose quality? expand_more

JPG is a lossy format, so a small amount of detail is discarded. At 92% quality the difference is not visible, but PNG remains completely lossless if that matters to you.

Why did the conversion need to download something? expand_more

Some browsers can decode HEIC by themselves. Where they cannot, a decoder component is downloaded once and then cached, so later conversions work instantly.

Is there a file size limit? expand_more

No fixed limit is imposed by the tool. The practical ceiling is how much memory your device has free, because the whole job runs inside this browser tab.
