Convert PNG to JPG so anything can open it

PNG screenshots and graphic assets can be massive. JPG shrinks them down to a fraction of the size and opens everywhere.

Large files are supported. Speed depends on your device.

Your file stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded, stored or shared.

Which output should you pick?

Choose JPG when

  • You need a smaller file to upload to portals or email.
  • The image is a photo or screenshot without transparency.
  • Storage space or faster page loading is your priority.

Stay with PNG when

  • The image has a transparent background you must preserve.
  • You need lossless pixel-for-pixel accuracy for graphics.
  • You plan to do further editing and want zero compression artifacts.

How it works

01

Choose your PNG file

The image loads straight into your browser memory. Nothing is uploaded.

02

JPG is already selected

This page opens with JPG target preset, ready for instant conversion.

03

Set the quality

Around 90% gives optimal visual quality with a dramatic reduction in file size.

What happens to your file

The picture never leaves your device

Compressing or converting a photo usually means sending it to somebody else's computer and getting a new one back. Here the work happens in the page you are already looking at: your browser opens the file, the tool rewrites it, and the browser hands you the result.

  • Opened from your disk by your browser — not sent anywhere first.
  • Held in the tab while the tool works, then dropped.
  • Saved to your device by your browser, not by a link to a server.
  • Closing the tab clears the working copy completely.
  • No account, so nothing is ever attached to an identity.
  • No tracking of what you worked on or what was inside the file.

There is no queue and no waiting room. The picture is worked on in front of you and released the moment the tab closes. You can read more about how the conversion runs on your own device, or check our guide to verifying it in DevTools.

What people use it for

Making a format open everywhere

PNG, JPG and WebP each suit different jobs. Convert once and stop worrying about which app can read the file.

Shipping a lighter page

Hero images are usually the heaviest thing on a site. Getting them smaller before they reach your CMS is the fastest performance win available.

Sending photos on a weak signal

On hotel Wi-Fi or a poor mobile connection a full-resolution photo can sit at sending for minutes. A smaller copy goes through in seconds.

Preparing marketplace listings

Selling platforms set their own caps on size and dimensions. Get inside them before you start filling in the form.

When something goes wrong

Damaged files, and formats outside the list above, stop with a plain message rather than a spinner that never finishes. If a picture opens in your gallery it will normally open here.

That file could not be opened

The format is not supported. Convert it to PNG or JPG first, or try one of the other image tools.

Why not an upload site

An upload-based tool is a form that posts your picture to someone else's machine. Take that step out and a lot of small annoyances disappear with it.

A typical upload site

Your photo is copied to a server before anything happens.
You wait for an upload, then wait again for the download.
Size limits come from a pricing tier.
Private photos pass through infrastructure you did not choose.
Batch work needs an account and often a paid plan.

This tool

The photo is opened on your device and never moves.
No upload at all, so no waiting on a transfer.
The ceiling is your own machine, not a plan.
Family photos, contracts and unreleased work stay in the room.
No account exists to restrict, so there is nothing to unlock.

Questions

What happens to transparent backgrounds in PNG?

JPG does not support an alpha transparency channel, so transparent areas are cleanly filled with white. If you need transparency preserved, convert to WebP using PNG to WebP instead.

How much smaller will the JPG be?

Depending on image complexity, converting a PNG screenshot or photo to JPG typically reduces file size by 50% to 80% with negligible visible difference.

Are my images uploaded to any server?

Never. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using HTML5 Canvas and native device codecs. You can disconnect your internet and verify it.

Is there a file size or quantity limit?

No daily conversion limits and no artificial paywalls. Processing capacity is bound only by your device's available memory.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit is imposed by the tool. The practical ceiling is how much memory your device has free, because the whole job runs inside this browser tab.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes, once the page has loaded. Nothing is fetched while you work, so a dropped connection does not interrupt a run.
