When something goes wrong

Why is my GIF file so large? expand_more
GIF is an old format with a limited palette, so it is far less efficient than modern video. Lowering the frame rate, reducing the width, or shortening the clip are the three most effective ways to shrink it.
What does colour dithering do? expand_more
GIF supports at most 256 colours per frame. Dithering mixes pixels of available colours to imitate the ones that are missing, which looks better on gradients and photos but produces a slightly larger file.
How long can the GIF be? expand_more
Up to 15 seconds is offered, because longer GIFs become very large very quickly. For anything longer, a short video file will be dramatically smaller.
Is there a file size limit? expand_more
No fixed limit is imposed by the tool. The practical ceiling is how much memory your device has free, because the whole job runs inside this browser tab.
